Kids, Pets, and Sod

The morning started out with me helping my Mom by watching 3 of her kiddos. A pretty typical morning with them accept the youngest two seemed determine to break their diaper records (I'll spare you the details as I don't prefer reliving them). As the 2 youngest slept, Kandra and I bundled up to start the process of picking the grapes off the grapevine while Mom continued to prep the backyard for sod. We took a break for lunch and Steven decided to wear more than he ate, but that's typical of a toddler. Then they all went down for a nap. Steven's didn't last long and eventually we both ended bundled up to go outside and help with the sod (he helped by playing in his car and petting the dogs).

So today my list of DIY projects that I've had a hand in expanded. I learned how to lay sod. Then I proceeded to sod the backyard with my Mother. The first piece of sod went down and Spunky (one of our two dogs) immediately approved by stretching out across the piece of grass. It was really entertaining at first. You see, we laid the first two rows and then we realized that we had forgotten to sprinkle the ironite. So two rows quickly get rolled back up so that we can lay down the mineral before rolling them back out again. The process then begins to get a little easier - well at least the sod laying part. Since in addition to the two dogs we now have a toddler in his spinny seat shaped like a car and an infant in her bouncy seat vying for attention. So little by little the sod goes in - between bottles and entertaining faces and making sure my little brother could see everthing and petting the dogs.

I had just about finished with one side of the yard as Mom worked on leveling the other when it was time to go pick Jeffrey up from school. So you add a hyper 1st grader who wants to run on the grass or stomp on the freshly tilled & leveled dirt to the mix and you can probably guess the kind of chaos that ensues. He is content for a little while to help roll out the sod since that is what Joey (another brother) had shown him how to do. Then Kandra wakes up from her nap and joins in with the running on the grass, stomping on the dirt, and rolling out the sod process. They actually all did really well considering their ages.

So the second side began about the time that Jeffrey and Kandra decided they were cold and wanted to play inside. The second side was not as straight forward as the first. The ground had to be mapped out. In the uppercorner I need to account for 3 foot flower beds (that don't exist yet) from the fences and an 8 inch gravel water line from the house (that also does not yet exist). The first piece of tricky cutting was around the window well. Time to start cutting chunks out to fit just right. Not bad as that was just right angles. Next we add in the angled edge of the swingset area - just an angle, nothing to tricky. Both dogs have taken to laying just one row of sod away from me so that if they whimper cute enough they'll get pet between piece laying. Then enter the meow of my darling Twirp. A rather pathetic, I want all your attention meow and a pawing at the gate. Simultaneously, both dogs jump up to full alert and move to the gate. Rascal (the other adorable kitty) joins in the fun and both cats proceed to the top of the cat house where they can peak over the fence and be pet without allowing the dogs to get them... and so begins the process of walk to the back fence for a new roll of sod, drop sod off, walk a few more feet to fence to pet meowing cats, then whimpering dogs watching meowing cats, then lay sod and trim, then back to get another roll of sod... It was rather cute. It shows me that even though Twirp is getting up their in years he is still the same old Twirp. As a kitten he'd sit on the fence between our yard and the neighbors waving his tail at the yapping weiner dog next door. I think one of his hobbies is teasing dogs. Eventually I make it around the edge of the house to do my oddest shape cut around a single brick. Fun stuff!

Now, just in case their aren't enough distractions. Let's add in sprinkling rain, fading light, and the temperature starting to drop. The little ones have all gone inside as the trek to the sod pile becomes one more by route memory than site. Move the rock and the baby toy that are hazards for ankles and feel around for a sod roll that isn't buried under another. Make your way back to the portion of the yard that is now lit by a flashlight and continue to cut the pieces to the right shapes... like around the rounded flower box. Eventually dinner has been put off for too long and with a few more rows left to go two weary women enter the house.

Chilli is a great way to warm up from the cold as my pants were pretty much soaked through from kneeling in wet grass. After putting the kids to bed Mom finished the last few rows. There is grass in the backyard again!

My Half-Marathon Time

4:39:35 which averages to a little over a 21 minute mile. Considering my friends and I walked the whole thing and I had on the wrong pair of shoes for it. I'm not going to complain (except maybe about the blisters).

I'm really proud of my buddy Mason as this was his first race ever. Combine the distance with the freezing weather and he impressed me greatly.

Just checked weather history.
Race temp at start and for first 5 miles: 20-25 degrees F.
Race temp second set of 5 miles: 25-35 degrees F.
Race temp last 3 miles: 35-39 degrees F.
So below freezing for the bulk of the race...

I Complete a HALF-MARATHON!

*happy dance*

I completed a HALF MARATHON!!!

I am so sore! I'll post more about it tomorrow.

Thank Ketchuplover that song ("I think I'm turning Japanese") is now stuck in my head... again.

Thanks Shell. I'm having fun with both EA Active and learning Japanese.

So I've volunteered to be the Community Leader for my city for the 5k challenge. Now I have the task of figuring out the best place for a race in late Oct/early Nov, because my mother pointed out that weather here isn't necessarily that co-operative during that time frame. I may have to contact the local gyms to see if any of them would let us utilize their indoor track... or maybe one of the schools... hmmm.

Got my workout in today and it was lunge after lunge after lunge. Unfortunately, my knee started to twinging the third to last set of lunges - so my last 2 and a half sets weren't as deep . But I made it through

Working Out

And I'm back again today Got my workout in this morning and loved it! mind you, I've realized I enjoy side lunges, moderately loath reverse lunges, and utterly despise forward lunges. Happily, this mornings workout only had side lunges. I am happy to report that I am seeing leg muscle again. I feel confident that if I stick with it I will be able to meet my Season 8 goal of 2 lbs a week (32 lbs gone by the finale). In my commenting on EA Active I went to their website and found out they are doing a 5K challenge (the run to take place between Oct. 17 & Nov. 15). Now I'll be completing my half marathon on October 11. So I figured I would sign up for this challenge and see if I can manage running it. There's no races in my city during the time period they gave - so, I figured I could convince a friend or two to create one and sent them an inquiry about becoming a community leader. I think it would be fun to meet some other people who have a 5K goal in mind that live in my area. That and I've realized that motivating others tend to in turn motivate me. So yeah. I'm a bit crazy... almost wondering if I can get people who'd want to do a costumed 5K on Halloween morning I think that would make for some fun photos to send into EA Active. Really, at this point I'm just rambling. So if you are reading this, THANK YOU!

Highlight of Day: Mom asking if I'd weighed myself recently because it looks like I've lost. *happy dance* Tis always a great feeling when others notice and comment on my progress. *puts in piggy bank of fuel to help get me through the blah days that are bound to attack on my journey*

Notes of Accomplishment for Today:
* I finished my last bit of program certification at work today. Passed my 118 question SAT math instructor exam with flying colors. Done with all the training videos. Yay!
* According to my flashcard tracker (@ smart.fm) I've got half of the Katakana alphabet memorized and 75% of the Hiragana alphabet memorized. So I feel like I am progressing well (especially since I only started the Katakana 2 days ago) in my self-studies of Japanese. I am speeding up on how quickly I recognize the characters. As soon as I've mastered the Hiragana list I will begin on one of the many Kanji list. I'm so excited!

Fitness Reboot

Okay, so apparently I'm not very good with the whole daily updating thing (looks like not even monthly). Anyway, the first few weeks of my half-marathon training I did really well. Then I started feeling ill each morning as I tried to get my work out in. Often stopping when it got to the point that my gag reflex was going to win out over my determination to finish. So the second half of August I pretty much avoided my workouts because I didn't want to start my day off feeling sick. So my birthday rolls around (Sept. 6) and my husband gives me EA Active. Now I absolutely love this fitness/personal trainer video game. Unlike Wii Fit, I always end up breaking a sweat part way into my workouts. It feels good even if it leaves me a bit sore. So on my birthday I weighed in and was happy to find out that over the month that I had stopped my diet (stopped before vacation and just haven't resumed) I only fluctuated 2 lbs up. This was fantastic news to me because I often balloon right back up the second I cease my diet. 2 lbs is an amount that I can flux in a day. So encouraged by my birthday weigh-in and eager to try I knew workout game I have plunged myself into the 30 day challenge. I am happy to say that I am already seeing results - I can feel the muscle definition in my arms again, my pants are a little looser, and I am down 5 pounds from last weeks 264 weighing in at 259 this morning. So overall I am feeling great. I am currently 5 pounds away from weighing less than my father again (an odd goal to have perhaps - I've still got a lot of work to do to weigh less than my hubby - less than his weight will be my next mini-goal and one I will celebrate immensely because in all the time I've known him I have always been heavier). With these goals I am hoping they can help make them more of a challenge. I would be so excited if my dad lost 5 lbs to maintain the gap when I lose 5 pounds this week. In fact, today I challenged him to a race to 230 pounds. He accepted and we set the goal date at Christmas (holidays may be a challenge, but that's okay. We can do it.) So it would be awesome if I didn't catch up to him until we hit the Christmas goal because it would mean he's losing right along with me.

Caught the show today and loved it. Don't really have a team favorite yet, but as always I start the season out by rooting for my favorite color (Team Orange). I'm liking the fact that the contestants get to benefit from both trainers this season and I hope that it stays that way all season.

I'm participating in the Season 8 challenge that is going on. So I look forward to losing with the rest of you over the next 16 weeks. We can do this.

Quarter of a Century

Today was a fun day! I turned 25 today. Hopped on the scale for the first time in almost a month and found out that I had only gained 2 lbs. This was fantastic news because the last time I was on the scale was when I was still on my diet (I've been off of it for about a month and one of the thing I worried about was the weight rebounding the second I stopped the diet). So it is very good to know that I can maintain my weight without doing much.

I received EA Active from my husband and I am very excited about this game/workout program. I had tried my Sister-in-Laws copy and ended up breaking a sweat and very sore the next day. I started the programs 30 day challenge today and will continue it. It is nice having a plan for what I need to do to workout because I've been slacking in that category.

I've got my next costume figured out. My friend Nora and I are doing Tautaun & Hoth Rebel costumes (where our legs are the legs of the Tauntauns and fake legs drape off the saddle. We plan on debuting them when we walk the Spokane Half Marathon in October. We have the structure planned out and Friday we will start our sewing. I am very excited!

Tomorrow should be a fun day too (have a bbq/game party planned to celebrate my birthday).

Employed!

I had a very odd and wonderful day. I woke up feeling strange. I had one of those odd dreams that does more to confuse your brain than anything else and spent the brainpower of my first awake hour trying to analyze it (only to end up more confused). Then it was off to do errands my Mom needed done before Grandpa arrived with the crab he and Grandma caught.

Bevan had a job interview and I was happy to recieve the call that told me they planned on hiring him. It's not a job in his field yet, but it is a job. And for that we are very happy. My husband is so wonderful.

About an hour later I got another call. This time it was from the place I had interviewed at last week. I am happy to say they offered me the position and am embarassed to admit that I was so excited the first word out of my mouth was an overly enthusiatic "AWESOME!' I am hoping that my overenthusiastic-ness (yes, I'm making up words now) didn't make her immediately regret offering the position. I start on Wednesday as a math instructor. It's a part-time gig (after school hours) that will still give me the flexibility to sub (or do other misc. jobs to fill my time).

Let me tell you - that crab was delicious! Thanks Grandpa & Grandma! Bevan and I enjoyed the crab for dinner - once we got past the guts & gills portion. I also cooked a cake to celebrate being employed (reflecting on that I should have done brownies or cookies so Bevan could enjoy it too - he's not a cake fan).

Joey and Linda came over so he could work on framing the windows and I could help Linda study for a math assessment so that she can test out of one of her college math classes this week. She's doing great and I think she's going to do just fine on the test.

Last night I started reading Twilight. Now before you get all groany on my or run away screaming - relax, I'm not a fan girl. Don't get me wrong - I'm enjoying the book so far, but I'm not going to go all "Edward this" and "Edward that" on you. The book reads a lot like a diary and in that style I think lies a lot of the intrigue making it hard to put down. There are times when I laugh from some of the silliness and I definitely have to classify Meyer's vampires in a complete seperate category from the vampire lore I know. Really, I picked it up because I kept hearing all sorts of things about it. I had read Stephanie Meyer's website on the book and gotten a good laugh about it because her website even read like fan fiction. I think the part that got me the most was that her books started because of a dream she had. So don't worry, I'm not planning a trip to Forks and you won't see me sporting any shirts that read "Cute boys sparkle" or "Boys: Read Twilight Be Like Edward". You will, however, eventually find all four books on my bookshelf (I'm currently borrowing the books from a friend, but I think I'll eventually aquire the set myself). Anyway, I'm gonna unwind for the night with a little reading.

I hope you can find the little things that made you smile today.

Costuming

One of my favorite hobbies is costuming. I love the whole process: choosing a subject, plotting & planning how to make the costume & props, making it, and then wearing it. Today was one of those awesome days that I had an excuse to don a costume.

Northwest Museum of Art & Culture posted:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I happily donned my Twi'lek Sith costume and my husband his Jedi and we headed to the MAC. We met up with two of the local 501st (Darth Vader & a Tusken Raider) and several Spokantina members - two of which were also in their Jedi garb. We were able to great guests at the museum entrance, take pictures, and sign autographs. Overall it was an incredibly fun day. I love the look on children (and those young at heart) when their faces light up at the sight of someone in the costume of a figure they admire or a creature they didn't expect to see. I also love when they gain the courage to shake the hand of Darth Vader or a red skinned Twi'lek - overcoming the initial fear. Kids are so cute. I think today was the first time I got asked for my autograph (yearbooks in school excluded).

We also got to watch "Return of the Ewok" - a really cute short that I would recommend any fan of Star Wars see if you get the opportunity.

That evening my husband and I watched the children of friends. Great kids who enjoyed playing Wii Sports Resort and watching a movie with us while their parents caught a flick with siblings.

So yeah, I'm pretty easily entertained. A lot like my little brother, Jeffrey. Let me wear a costume and I am happy as can be.

Life's Little Moments

Life is full of little moments that should be celebrated. Precious instances that bring joy and create wonderful memories. I've experienced several little moments throughout my day today that I felt like sharing.

~ I've got an interview scheduled for later this week (a relief since I've been job hunting for almost a year now) and this job would actually utilize my degree (which would be a first - odd, since I've held said degree for over 3 years now).

~ One of my favorite moments from today was when my little sister, Kandra came running up to me and gave me a big hug. Now to understand the significance of this - you have to realize that lately 3 year old Kandra is in the I only do what I want to do phase and long past random snuggling. Usually it takes me several requests to get a hug or teasing her by tickling and only getting a hug because she wants the tickles to stop. So an unrequested hug from Kandra is a big deal in my book.

~ The joy brought by holding a newborn in your arms. I got to hold an adorable little princess (as Kandra refers to all baby girls) today. She's 12 days old now. One of the foster babies my Mom is taking care of. She is a precious little princess that weighs what I did at birth. Sometimes it is shocking to think that I was once that small. This little girl has the cutest little hands that will grasp onto your pinky. She is adorable.

~ Another moment, that is very big in this foster boys life was my precious little brother taking the most steps solo he's taken. He had so much fun walking back and forth between my Mom, the neighbor and I. It was adorable. Each time he fell he'd shake his sun-bleached blond head no before standing back up on wobbly feet and trying again. He made at least 10 unaided steps on his longest walk. This little boy knows no fear. He'd topple and stand up again as we clapped. Only once did he decide his topple deserved tears. It was so cute.

~ And this brings me to my baby. I have a precious little ball of fur and claws. Her name is Kaylee. She is a torti. She has been incredibly affectionate ever since I returned from a trip where I was gone from her for 2 weeks. She nussles up right next to me - currently she is curled up next to me on the bed watching me type. Last night it was adorable because she settled herself down in my skirt and was content to sleep against me while I sat reading. It is amazing what the lovely companionship of an animal can do to lift one's spirits. Kaylee is my baby girl.

Those are my little moments that I want to remember. What are yours?

Running

"What's the furthest you've run (not on a machine)?" - ketchuplover

Well I don't run much. A few miles. I think this first half will be a combo - walk/jog/run - aka I just want to finish.

Walking/jogging - I do a 12k yearly (7.46 miles).

Half-Marathon in Oct.

In an effort to find something that will help me stay motivated enough to exercise regularly I've signed up for a half-marathon in October. I've got my training schedule and started training yesterday with 3 ten minute miles in the morning and a mile + walk in the late evening. I'm pretty excited about it. My mom, sis, and sis-in-law are doing this half too.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

It is a huge relief. Now if only I can find a job (something more permanent and better paying than babysitting) and speed up the process of my husband and I getting into our own place again and out from under my parents roof.

My grandparents are in town right now. I'm enjoying spending time with them.

11 day diet

Thank you all! *hugs* Life's been pretty stressful. Been trying to sell our condo (short sell process sucks). Today is our 4th scheduled closing date (2 were postponed due to buyer and her bank and the last one because the bank with the mortgage wasn't responding to attempts to contact and get paperwork in order). So I am really stressed and hoping that it really will close today. I've been hunting for a job since I was laid off in October and other than small jobs (like nanny-ing, babysitting, and minor data entry) I haven't found anything. I'm stressed and really realizing how much I've used food as a comfort in times of stress. It's been really, really hard to stick to my diet when all I really want is to eat whatever I think will make me feel better even for a little while. I haven't totally blown my diet, but there are several days that include foods not on the diet when it should have just been the diet. The stress of living back under my parents' roof is beginning to get to me (especially because my 5 & 3 year old brother and sister have no concept of volume control and are still working out a lot of issues from the pre-adoption portion of their lives). I feel so utterly not in control and I don't like this feeling. It's hard to focus on weight-loss when I feel so overwhelmed.

EDIT: 4th scheduled closing is the charm!!! The condo has officially switched hands! Hooray for the fact that we no longer have to deal with it (haven't been living in it since Jan.) and hooray for the buyer since she had to be out of the place she was renting earlier this week and now she has a place. *happy dance*

11 day diet

Thanks Michelle and Don!

Did 3 miles yesterday at a 17 minute mile pace and another 3 today at a 10 minute mile pace. I'll start back on Round 5 of the diet tomorrow. (Took a longer break than normal to carbo load for the 12k (7.something mile) Bloomsday I did on Sunday). Starting it tomorrow so that I can enjoy the block wide bbq we are doing tonight. I feel so much better on days that I exercise! I'm back on track for hitting my 1000 mile goal by the end of the year. There are 238 days left in the year and if I average 4 miles a day I can still achieve my goal. That's 40 minutes on the elliptical at a 10 minute mile pace or 80 minutes on the elliptical at a 20 minute mile walk. I can easily commit to 40-80 minutes of walking/jogging/running a day.

11 day diet

I can happily say I have finished yet another Bloomsday I think this makes 14! I had a blast. I walked with 3 other friends all in costume and chatted with several others I knew throughout the race. This year I walked in my Sith Twi'lek costume which meant that I carried an additional 15lbs on my head (the lekku [aka headtails] of my costume). None of us were concerned about time. We were walking for the fun of it. I was interviewed and we probably had at least 100 people take our picture throughout the 12k course.

My Stats
Finish Time: 2:35:58
Overall Place: 40,277 out of 44,490
Ran with a pace of 20:54 per mile
The average pace for 24-year-olds was 13:03
Placed 847th among 893 people the same age
Placed 15,788th among 17,717 people from Spokane, WA
Placed 32,393rd among 35,983 people from Washington
Placed 51st among 60 people with the same last name
Placed 23,635th among 26,349 females
Placed 540th out of 569 among 24-year-old females

I'm happy with the pace we kept - especially considering the number of times we slowed down or stopped for someone with a camera.

Monday I woke up a little sore but made a point to keep stretching all day. This morning I did 2 miles and plan on doing several more tomorrow.

11 day diet

It definitely has most of the community involved via in the race, volunteering to help with the race (handing out water, picking up the warm-up clothing shed at the beginning of the race and donated to charity), reporting the event, or watching the race. Most of downtown is closed for the event and then it's concerts in the park for the rest of the day.

Thanks I'm pretty proud of the pace I kept - especially since this was the first time I didn't have a walking buddy for it and the hilly-est course I've ever done. And I can feel it today. I'm pretty sore.

11 day diet

The race started out purely as a race for fun. A few years back they started picking local charities to support. This year it is the YMCA & YWCA Your Y fund.

It takes place the first Sunday of May every year. So May 3rd will be the race morning and who knows what the weather will have in store. Bloomsday morning is notorious for unpredictable weather - one year we started in the snow which turned to sleet which turned to rain with a strong wind and eventually went sunny. I wasn't in town for it last year, but I still completed the 12 k on my elliptical that morning and my brother was able to send me a shirt. This is a race I've done since grade school (they run an after-school program called 'Fit for Bloomsday' in the grade schools each year leading up to this race and American's Kid Run - which was Junior Bloomsday when I did it, but now is run by a different group).

I am so close to being under 250 lbs! I haven't been sticking 100% to my diet. However, I'm still pretty proud of myself that when I do indulge in something not on it - I'm eating half or less of what I would use to consume of that item. The other thing I am proud of is the fact that I haven't given up on the diet yet. Normally by this time with any other plan I've tried I'd be so frustrated at this point that I'd have started eating more crap and putting back on anything I managed to take off plus a few more pounds for good measure. I track my weight on Wii Fit and it is really awesome to see it all graphed out for me. It is also nice to see the color coded sections for normal weight, overweight, and obese. It's nice to see that I am moving down towards overweight (will hit that when I am in the 200 -210 range). I am making progress to getting my fat butt in shape and out of the obese range. I can do this. My progress is showing that I am doing this *skips off to do the 6 miles for Bloomsday training this morning*

*returns*
I feel great! I finished the 6 miles in 1 hr 45 minutes - really good for me considering the route they had us on was a very, very hilly route. In fact, they found a hill that makes Doomsday hill look like a cake walk. So that's an average of 17.5 minutes per mile and a decent walking pace I'm really looking forward to Bloomsday. It's a race that I've walked with friends for years (I think this is year is number 15 for me). Bloomsday is a 12K footrace with a large group of walkers. Not sure if it still holds the record for the largest footrace in the country. Anyway, this year I will be walking it in my Twi'lek costume which means I will have an additional 15 lbs of weight strapped to my head [the picture below shoes the costume I'll be in]. Even with the 15 lbs on my head I will still be walking Bloomsday lighter than I was in Feb.

1000 miles for the year is an awesome goal, keep us posted on your Exercise Journal too would love to see your progress
Increasing activity a little at a time - opted to walk to my choir practice last night instead of driving. It was nice and the confused snow that fell yesterday morning had almost melted.

As for my 1000 mile goal. I'm at 46.5 miles right now - so I've got a long way to go. Just gotta push myself to get on it more than once a week. Before I moved I was on it at least 5 days a week. Working to get back into that swing.

He has been okay about it but I do know he has it when he is out of the house... he is known as "Cookie Boy" around here. My kids dubbed him this LOL

I LOVED last night's show. Mike and Tara are my favs, I usually pick a guy and a girl during the show. Tara impressed the hell out of me, I have determination but not as strong as she has. She is quite the gal and Laura is a wonderful friend for going to her aid and getting Tara refocused on the end goal and why she was there. Great Show for sure.

I wish I could do the no sweets or junk food in the house - sadly, there is always some form of baked goods in the house. I'm getting better at ignoring them, but sometimes it can be really, really hard. I've found that there's been a few times since I started the diet that I have indulged in a baked treat. However, I have found that I can be just as satisfied after eating say half a donut as I used to be after eating a whole.

You can definitely see Tara's determination.

11 day diet

Today was day one of round 3 and I feel great. Did 2 slow miles in 40 minutes on the elliptical this afternoon. Cooked some delicious lemon pepper chicken in the crock pot for dinner. Gave in to a few chips, but stopped before eating the handful after handful that I used to. Successfully resisted the temptation of the giant cookie that sat out on the table all day and the chocolate swirl cheesecake that called my name every time I opened the fridge. I feel good. I'm looking forward to my elliptical time tomorrow and even the day of eating fruit. I froze some fresh strawberries just for today and I think we have some pears too!

Caught the show today [so skip this section if you haven't yet] and I was very relieved to learn that Mike would not be going home. He shares a name with my deceased brother and quickly became my favorite for this season. Personality wise he reminds me a lot of my brother. It was also nice to see Tara win the challenge despite the added weight she had. That girl is determined. She shows the determination I am starting to feel. I was so glad Laura helped her through her frustration, because I know Tara would have regretted it if she had walked away. I'm not a big fan of Tara, but like Jillian, I felt very proud of her. Even though her odds overwhelmed her she perceviered. The teaser for next week has me really curious.

Well, I'm off to bed. Night all!

11 day diet

It's due mainly to the diet. I haven't been getting in as much exercise as I'd like. Got 7.5 miles in during BL on Tuesday and 2 miles in on Saturday for my Bloomsday training. I want to get back in my routine of 30-90 minutes on my elliptical 4-6 days a week. I've got a mileage goal of 1000 miles on my elliptical for 2009 and if I don't get back into gear I won't make the goal (did 729 elliptical miles in 2008).

I'll send you a PM Zooy.

Thanks for the support everyone!

I'm on my second free day of this round. Indulging in a few of the baked goods and sweets I've been craving - doing my best to limit portions and make sure I don't revert back to grazing all day. Tomorrow I'll begin round 3.

I haven't been following the diet to the letter this week (to be honest I'm not sure I could even name a day that I did this round). I've missed some of the planned meals, not eaten at the right time, and I've eaten things not on the plan. I've been sick and though that shouldn't be an excuse I have gone to some of my comfort foods. Heck, last night I had a burger and a shake in place of my 4th meal. Not the wisest choice, but I can't change the past and want to get out of the habit of beating myself up over it. I will just do my best to make today a better food day.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

I'm back down after my weekend of bad eating habits. Still have a lovely cough/cold - but such is life. I'm not sure on the fat/carb/protein ratio. I really haven't taken the time to analyze the foods yet. I love fruit, so the fruit day is actually an easy day for me. My rough day is the veggie day. I have a hard time eating veggies for breakfast. Thanks for the encouragement.

11 day diet

It was more like 3 bad days, but I can't change the past. I can however remember not to do it again.

Mine's a sore throat and a really bad cough. My head is pounding right now and my sinuses hate me. Fun stuff.

Stepped on the scale this morning and I am down 2.4 pounds - a good thing since I went up about 4 pounds during my bad days.

*goes back to bed*

Thank you all for your support!

So this weekend was a bad one food wise. Day 11 ended in a non-planned meal as it was celebrating my brother's birthday. I ate more than I should have and indulged in cake and ice cream. *happy dance* So yesterdays weight loss was huge for me because it made me pass the 260 threshold. All of 2008 saw me unable to get below 260 (mainly stayed in the 261-262 range for most of the year). The fact that I am several pounds below that plateau makes me so excited . *skips happily off to breakfast*

Thanks Kato! Enjoy your company!

Sorry I didn't pop in yesterday. Twas a busy day (nanny work, then construction work on the house, then friends over). And I wasn't as excited about yesterdays small gain as I have been about the losses on the other days.

Thank you all for you words of encouragement! You all are awesome!

11 day diet

Thanks for the pinch Terri and the congrats! The plan doesn't give amounts in cups/oz/slices. You eat until right before you are fully satisfied, but never stuffed. The plan encourages you to eat slowly (so you don't eat to much at one sitting). Basically it tries to get you to eat just enough of what you need for fuel so that there is no excess that gets stored right into fat. I thought the list was small too, but I'm on day 6 and still enjoying the foods I get to eat - no food boredom here. I've not been a green veggie eater, but I am finding ones I enjoy (like green peppers and broccolli). This is my first time on the 11 day menu. I will then take the 2-3 free days to enjoy some of the foods I might be missing in moderation. Then I will generate a new menu to follow for another 11 days. I wonder how the results from my second 11 day cycle will compare...

My Results:
Day #1: 270.5
Day #2: 267.4 = 3.1 lb loss!
Day #3: 264.7 = 3.7 lb loss!
Day #4: 262.6 = 1.1 lb loss!
Day #5: 261.2 = 1.4 lb loss!
Day #6: 261.0 = .2 lb loss!

Total Loss So Far: 9.5 lbs

I need to figure out how my dad is doing. EDIT: Dad is right around 9 lb loss as well. He was at the Cougar game on Sat. and then went out to eat with my sister, her boyfriend, and his parents. So he has had a cheat meal as well.

The loss was not as big this morning, but I knew that coming into this morning's weigh in. Yesterday I only ate 3 of the planned meal. My fourth meal was dinner at a friend's house (plans made prior to starting 11 day diet and already postponed once). I didn't feel right canceling - so I just watched my portions. It was a healthy meal - it just didn't fit into the protien only meal I should have had. But that's okay. The rest of the 11 days will be exactly what the menu calls for .

Day #6
Meal #1 - 7:55 am: Scrambled eggs, peanuts, garden salad
Meal #2: Bowl of baked beans, frozen yogurt dessert
Meal #3: Shrimp, cashews
Meal #4: Turkey and/or ham slices

Day #2: 267.4 = 3.1 lb loss!
Day #3: 264.7 = 3.7 lb loss!
Day #4: 262.6 = 1.1 lb loss!
Day #5: 261.2 = 1.4 lb loss!

Total Loss So Far: 9.3 lbs

Day #5
Meal #1 - 8:15 am (slightly early because I needed to eat it between worship team practice and church starting): Ham slices
Meal #2 - 5:30 am: Pastrami slices, cheese
Meal #3 - 12:30 pm: Chicken and/or tuna salad
Meal #4 - 5:45 pm: Broiled sea bass, hard boiled eggs [timing was off and it wasn't the planned meal. Ate (organically grown and home-cooked) hamburger with wheat bun, salad (w/ walnuts and no dressing), orange slices, skinny cow 100 cal. ice cream sandwich].

If I lose .7 more I will have accomplished something I have never done - losing a double digit in a week It feels so good to know that I am getting lighter. Can somebody pinch me? It feels like I am in a dream.

Thank you Terri and Michelle!

11 day diet

I started my day in the morning - it's just that the morning of the first day I spaced weighing in so I weighed in - in the afternoon. Oh wait! I think you meant the meal times I listed. The 4 meals just need to be consumed in the same day, they can be done in any order. Like for breakfast this morning I had meal #2 of Day #3 and by the end of today I will have eaten all 4 of Day #3's meals .

Day #3
Meal #1: Turkey deli meat and/or ham slices
Meal #2 - 7:45 am: Bacon strips and/or pastrami slices
Meal #3: Cheese slices, skinless chicken breast, bowl of green veggies
Meal #4 - 11:15 am: Tuna salad and/or broiled sea bass

My dad lost an additional 2 lbs.
Dad's results:
Day #2: 4 lb loss
Day #3: 2 lb loss

Dad's Total Loss: 6 lbs

EDIT: I did 4 miles on my elliptical in 41 minutes. Then I played with my younger sister - using her as a weight on my legs to do leg lifts and then did airplane with her to get some reps in on my arms.

11 day diet

They give you 2 lists of food choices and you get to choose 7-15 items from each side. Then they use those items to generate a menu. I can list the foods for you if you want.

My exercise was 30 minutes of Wii Fit yesterday.

Also: I'm excited. Scale showed a 3.7 loss from yesterday!!!

My Results:
Day #1: 270.5
Day #2: 267.4 = 3.1 lb loss!
Day #3: 264.7 = 3.7 lb loss!

Total Loss So Far: 6.8 lbs

Dad's Results:
Day #2: 4 lb loss
Day #3: I don't know yet.

11 day diet

Thanks mcissel03, coorsd, & ketchuplover!

Today's been a good day. Several times today various foods have been tempting, but I've been able to stick to it, because when it comes down to it I'm only actually hungry at meal times. Sticking to specific times is making me realize how much I absentmindedly grazed on anything in sight before regardless of the time and mainly just because it was there.

Day #2
Meal #1 - 3:30 pm: Deli meat sandwich (2 slices of bread, deli meat of choice, lettuce, tomato)
Meal #2 - 7:30 am: Fresh fruit*
Meal #3 - 11:30 am: Fresh fruit*
Meal #4 - 6:00 pm (slightly early, but I'm singing from 6:30 on so it is as it is): Fresh fruit*
*dry fruit can be substituted in during one meal - watch sugar content of dried fruit

I'm liking this so far

11 day diet

My grandfather found it and lost weight using it so he suggested it to my father. My father tried it and lost 16 pounds over the first 11 days. [He's done a few cycles since then and his doctor has been impressed with the results.] After 11 days on the meal plan you take 2-3 days with your own meals and then start again with another 11 day meal plan. Every 11 day session you use a meal generator to choose up to 30 foods that the generator then uses to list the meal plan. My grandfather found it online: http://www.fatloss4idiots.com/?hop=itswyman

There is no calorie counting involved. Things to eat are preplanned - portions however are not: the rule is eat till you are satisfied, never stuffed.

The result claim you will "lose 9 lbs every 11 days".

I'm am definitely keeping my eye on the foods in it that are less healthy (ie. ham) and when I generate my own list I will cut them out entirely. The menu I am doing is the one my dad made. It'll be interesting to compare results. I'm going to keep updating this daily with how I feel about the diet and let you all decide if it is something you are interested in. Like I said, I'm trying it and we will see.

Thank you for the welcome back Kato, Seasidedebbie, Chrystalina09, gogo1432, and coorsd.

Day #1 Weigh-in: 270.5
Day #2 Weigh-in: 267.4
That's 3.1 pounds lost between yesterday and today. I am keeping in mind the fact that weight can fluctuate 2 lbs within a day and my weigh-in yesterday was in the afternoon and my weigh-in today was this morning. I will try to weigh-in around the same time every morning so that I can see a more accurate weight measurement. But taking into account the 2 lb flux I'd still be pretty happy with this diet and my exercise with the 1.1 lb loss

My dad told me that from last night (he weighed in right before dinner) to this morning he is down 4 lbs.

gogo - Milk intolerance isn't an issue for me. I just like my dairy products. I have to get my milk in daily or I end up with painful cramps. So every morning during this for me is still starting out with a single glass of 1% milk. As for the cheese - I can think of no better legitimate explanation then: I love it!

coorsd - great to be on your team

So at this point I am optimistic about the plan (a rare feat with any "diet" for me). If the loss keeps on at this pace in 11 days I will be very enthusiastic about the plan and not to mention lighter.

I hope you all have a great and healthy day! Thank you for supporting me!

11 day diet

So today I started an 11 day diet. Basically it's a program that generates a meal menu for the next 11 days. 4 meals a day 3-4 hours apart.

Day #1
6:30 am: Banana & glass of milk (to prevent my stomach from causing problems during morning workout)
3 miles on elliptical
Meal #1 - 7:30 am: Scrambled eggs, small handful peanuts
Meal #2 - 11:00 am: Tuna salad, head of broccoli, green pepper
Meal #3 - 3:00 pm: Shrimp, small handful cashews, mixed veggies
Meal #4 - 7:00 pm: Broiled sea bass, 2 hard boiled eggs

I'm still satisfied. My sweet tooth kicked in a bit today and despite the cakes/cookies/etc. lying around I was able to stick to the meal plan and not eat the sweets. However, I did end up taking a small pinch of shredded cheddar from the bag that was left out on the counter - cheese seems to be as equal a temptation as sweets for me. Thankfully there is cheese in this plan so next time I think of eating it when I am not supposed to I can just tell myself to wait until the day I'm allowed to have it and not fret it.

The plan is really interesting. My dad has done it before and lost quite a bit of weight with it. He asked me to try it with him (as he does it again) - so I am giving it a go. Tomorrow 3 of the 4 meals consist of fruit - so I'll see how that goes.

Moving

Thanks SuperStar!

And I'm still around (was out of town for the holidays) and still working to be fit. I just don't have a lot of time at the moment to document that progress. I'm packing for a move and trying to sell my condo. So I will be scarce pretty much until February.
